An Emerald Swallowtail (Papilio palinurus) housed in a 10x10" frame.

This butterfly black and green at first glance but the black shows metallic green speckles as you change your perspective. The iridescent green sheen of the bands of this butterfly is not produced by pigments, but is structural colouration produced by the microstructure of the wing scales. They refract the light and give rise to blue and yellow visible reflections, producing the perception of green color when mixed. Because of this in some lights it can look blue!

This butterfly is found in a selection of Southeast Asian countries.
